Goodbye….

When the sun sets at dusk tonight

Casting its shadow across the land,
Small children will lay about soft sheets
And wonder…

They will think back to playground antics
Stolen glances,
And that special kiss.
Their minds will wonder into tomorrow’s dreams
Pure thoughts draped in curiosity.
And, as they slowly drift away
They will dream of candy-filled windows,
And long summer days.

Then, while the sun sets upon the seas this night
Young mothers will cradle new life
And weep,
Both joyous and relieved.
As young fathers stand in dimly lit doorways
And smile.

And, as the sunlight fades from the streets tonight
A poor man will huddle his beloved for warmth,
As a rich man lay about an empty hotel room
Thinking only of his wife.

But, as darkness blankets the earth
That same night,
You too will rest.
And, as you slowly drift away,
The seas shall rise
As oceans sigh,
For your soul will soon be at one with the tides.

But know now no fear,
For as the blanket lifts at dawn
And darkness slowly fades,
Dawn’s light will bathe us in amber bright –

Beaming across your legacy…

For your footsteps shall never fade.
